Selene Classic 60-43 Delivered

After a long and arduous production process, Selene 6043 is now finally ready to start her early morning delivery trip to Hong Kong. This boat was almost ready for delivery when the pandemic struck and she then spent a long time waiting for the final machinery to be delivered and commissioned with the border closures in China. Her owner has been at the shipyard for the last year consulting on the final build stages of his own boat and helping the yard to develop new skills. He is now very happy to see his boat on her way at last and the re-unite with his wife in Hong Kong.

Selene 6043 is a shining example of the Classic Selene 60. She is probably the most technically advanced boat the shipyard has ever produced. Jet Tern worked very closely with the owners – who are themselves very experienced boaters – for the design and the build of this passage making yacht. They plan to cross oceans and explore the most far-flung places of world in their new Selene. She is therefore equipped to handle the demands of both the heat and humidity of the tropics as well as the freezing temperatures of Alaska.

For the first time, the shipyard has installed a complex and state-of-the-art electronics system which was designed and commissioned by the owner. This type of after-sales project is normally carried out by dealers once the yacht arrives in her home country. However, 6043 is cruising directly from the factory so she had to be cruise ready – and as Jet Tern move more and more into direct delivery from the yard, their skills in commissioning work are growing.

The Selene 6043 electrical system is designed to cope with all input voltages and frequencies – she can plug into shorepower anywhere in the world. It boasts a large lithium battery bank and battery management system – the first time the yard have installed such a system. With the growing trend towards lithium batteries, Jet Tern have now developed their skills in this area. The complexity of the electrical system as a whole has taken the yard into new areas. The design specification provided by the owner presented some challenges but has been successfully achieved. She has a complex Victron system capable of operating under all types of boating scenarios to provide household level of power to the boat, at the dock or at anchor. This was achieved with a combination of shorepower, two generators and solar power.

The interior is based on the classic teak styling but with a modernised European look. All carpentry panels are squared and paired with stainless steel fittings. The open-plan staircase to the flybridge from the pilot-house gives a more spacious feel. It’s still a very classic boat and shows off the stunning skills of the Jet Tern carpentry team.
