Unlike other builders, Selene model names often understate the actual size of the boat. A Selene 60, for example, is actually 65ft or 19.84m. Be sure to look at the actual data on the model you are considering before making your choice as this does not apply to all models.
Recently Jet Tern developed the new “Ocean Explorer” range which is a modern-style version of the very successful trawler, but with the looks of a stylish luxury yacht. It is built on the same hull moulds as it’s Classic siblings, with modifications and finishing by hand lamination. Based on the one-off large boats in principle, the new semi-production range was designed by the Dutch naval architect, Guido de Groot in conjunction with Howard Chen.
The new range is rounded and smooth on the outside, and loaded with modern open-plan interior designs and cabinetry. This new version is proving very popular too – technically, the machinery on the inside is identical to it’s classic equivalent and is at home equally in the marinas of Monte Carlo or the waves of the Pacific Ocean. The new Explorer model can be built from the 60 (65ft LOA) to a 92 (92ft LOA) – with a 98 model (92ft LOA) being specifically designed for offshore fishing.
There are also other larger projects on the drawing board – so if you have your own idea for your boat, this can be designed just for you and built to Class (American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyd’s Register, and RINA) as required.
All Selene Yachts, except the largest one-off designs, are “semi-production” – meaning they are based on an approved hull and interior design, with classifications for various countries worldwide (such as CE for Europe). However, every single Selene is different as owners can specify the boat to their precise requirements – something the competitors will only agree to for the largest yachts they build.
